Rap mogul announces 2009 launch of family-friendly Better Black Television.
*On the heels of dropping his rap moniker Master P, Percy Miller – now known as P. Miller – has announced that he is launching a new cable network that will provide African American-themed fare for the entire family.
Better Black Television, set to begin in 2009, will provide "positive content for a black and brown culture," according to a company statement, and unofficially compete with Black Entertainment Television for viewers.
Miller assured Reuters that he still has "a great relationship with BET and MTV" and that he and his son, Lil' Romeo, "will continue to do work with them and support their networks." He also gave props to BET founder Bob Johnson.
"I remember him telling me back in the day that if you wanted to know real estate, you've got to hang out with real estate investors. If you wanted to know sports, you've got to hang out with athletes. I wanted to know TV, so I hung out with Bob and learned the TV game from one of the best in the business."
Content on Miller's BBTV will include a wide range of scripted, unscripted and news programming, including drama and comedy series, movies, animation, reality, politics, sports and entertainment news, children's educational and teen programming, as well as "responsible hip-hop music and videos." The cable channel is in the process of purchasing local cable channel affiliates across the country. Production on BBTV's programs has begun in California, New York, Louisiana and Florida.

There is good news that rapper Master P who is now known by the name P.Miller is going to launch a television network called Better Black Television. Master P made his fortune of the dirty south sound and is now an advocate of G rated profanity free rap music.
Hip-hop mogul P. MILLER is launching his own family-friendly cable network to provide "positive" viewing for the black community.
The star, formerly known as Master P, announced on Thursday (14Aug08) that the new network - titled Better Black Television (BBTV) - will focus on general entert ainment, ranging from drama, comedy, movies, animation, politics and sports, as well as entertainment news.
And Miller has brought a number of celebrities on board BBTV - Oscar-winner Denzel Washington, rap pioneer DJ Kool Herc and NBA basketball player Derek Anderson are among the network's board members.
BBTV CEO Miller says, "I believe that there is a market in our community for a new diverse network that provides a new brand of superior programming that caters to all aspects of television, from reality to original programming."
The new channel will be in direct competition with the existing U.S. network Black Entertainment Television (BET), which also caters for the African American community.

Rap mogul Percy "Master P." Miller is joining the ranks of Halle Berry, Oprah Winfrey and others, as the rapper has officially announced his support for presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Master P. recently partnered with the NAACP to help minorities understand their impact on elections and the importance of voting.
"We always think we're outnumbered, and our vote doesn't matter, but truthfully that's not the case" Master P. told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "If we get out there and support the people we believe in, we can make a difference now."
In the latest issue of Vibe, Obama shared his opinion on the powerful influence of Hip-Hop.
"I think that if all our kids see is a glorification of materialism and bling and casual sex and kids are never seeing themselves reflected as hitting the books and being responsible and delaying gratification, then they are getting an unrealistic picture of what the world is like," Obama stated.
Master P., who will speak at the 2007 Congressional Black Caucus Convention in September, renounced profanity last May and started Take A Stand Records, a new label co-owned with his son Lil' Romeo.
Take A Stand releases will consist solely of profanity free rap music.
The label's first release is Hip-Hop History, which will be in Wal-Mart stores worldwide.
Master P., who is also preparing his self help book Guaranteed Success, issued a challenge to "the studios, TV, Internet sites, and radio stations, to promote our positive leaders and stop glorifying the negative."
Both the book and album will be available on September 4, 2007.
