We are sad to say that August 25th is the anniversary of Aaliyah's tragic death in a plane crash. We remember and celebrate the beauty, talent and short life of an angel who left us too soon. We miss you. Watch the anniversary tribute video and footage from the morning of her death. R.I.P Aaliyah.
A pilot had cocaine and alcohol in his system when the plane he was flying crashed in the Bahamas, killing nine people including singer and actress Aaliyah, a doctor testified during a coroner's inquest. Pilot Luis Antonio Morales had cocaine in his urine and traces of alcohol in his stomach at the time of the 2001 crash, pathologist Dr. Giovander Raju testified Tuesday. The autopsy results were already made public earlier this year, and Raju was not required to testify on whether the findings may have contributed to the crash. Investigators also have said they believe the twin-engine Cessna 402B was 700 pounds overloaded when it crashed shortly after takeoff from Marsh Harbor in the Bahamas en route to Florida on Aug. 25, 2001. Two taxi drivers who dropped the group off at Abaco's airport testified Tuesday that they were concerned about the amount of equipment they had with them. Annie Russell and Louise McIntosh had driven Aaliyah around while shooting the video "Rock the Boat," which the 22-year-old singer had just finished at the time of her death. The two said they were concerned the amount of sound and video equipment would be too much. source

Summer Beach Vacations. The very words beckon to most people and bring back nostalgic memories. A beach vacation is easily understood as vacationing on or near a beach. The accommodations can be a hotel, condo, motel or even a timeshare. We all have seen those beach motels situated on prime beachfront property! Even staying at a friend's or relative's house near the beach can be considered a "beach vacation"! Summertime is usually the season when families flock to the beach for surf, sand and sun! Perhaps they will go to their local beaches, or expensive resorts situated on faraway, exotic beaches with extra services and amenities or even all-inclusive resorts that cater to honeymooning couples or families that have activities scheduled out for them!
When deciding on a summer beach vacation, there is the beach itself to consider. Some beaches are soft, white and powdery. Some are soft and pink. There are even black beaches! However, most are brown grains of sand for those of us who do not live in a tropical paradise! Now complement all of that with the color of the ocean (blue, green, turquoise or all of them!) and the very words "summer beach vacation" starts to work its magic on you!
Enter travel memberships. Most people do not consider purchasing a membership for their vacations unless they are wealthy and want prestigious getaways. These travel memberships are taking the travel industry by storm because there is a long-term value to your investment. With families taking maybe 1 or 2 vacations per year, gas prices soaring and airlines charging for luggage, this membership makes financial sense because, unlike timeshares, you can actually take your vacation year after year without the hassles of annual dues, maintenance fees or exchanging weeks! You know with certainty that you and your family will be going to fabulous places! And you will know you are getting more 'bang for your buck' when it comes down to accommodations, especially in this economy! The membership fees are usually one-time fees and with thorough research, you can find one that is reasonably priced and will last your lifetime.
Here are 6 examples of 4 & 5 star beach resorts (actually on or near the beach) for this summer offered through a particular travel membership that I personally use and recommend:
1. Villa Vera Puerto Isla Mujeres Hotel & Marina in Cancun. Here is a description: Villa Vera Puerto Isla Mujeres is a gracious, intimate boutique hotel, surrounded by the turquoise waters and white sands of the Mexican Caribbean.
It offers luxurious units, restaurants, a pool, marina, and exclusive beach club. Enjoy spectacular coral reefs. water caves, archeological sites, and ecological parks and beaches.
Expedia lists this property for 1 week in August at $1,646 for a suite. This same room goes for $699 for the same week through this travel membership. That is about $1,000 in savings! You could save that money or spend on food/drinks/souvenirs that you would spend on anyway!
2. Elysian Beach Resort on St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands). Here is a description:
This 180-room resort overlooks a white-sand beach on Cowpet Bay on the eastern end of St. Thomas. Winding walkways lead to a freeform pool and a palm-lined beach with views of the nearby St. Thomas Yacht Club.
Amenities include two restaurants, a mini-casino with several slot machines, and spa services including massages, manicures, and facials.
Expedia is listing this property in August for 1 week at $2,072 for a studio that sleeps 4. You can have the same room for $675! Wow! That is $1,400 in savings! And you don't even need a passport!
3. Naigani Island Resort in Fiji. Here is a description: Naigani Island is a rugged and beautiful island, of some 540 acres of lush tropical vegetation, palm trees and stunning white sand beaches.
Naigani boasts some of the South Pacific's most spectacular snorkelling in pristine waters.
The resort has a landscaped swimming pool,a sunken bar and a fun palm fringed 3 hole golf course.
Meals are served in the restored plantation house "Rileys"and the cuisine is a fusion of local and western food.
The resort has added a new "dive" boat to its scuba diving operations and a qualified diving instructor and dive master.
Expedia lists this resort for a double room at $1,093 for 1 week in August. The travel membership is listing this same room for $689 a week! Still saving!
4. Ocean Key Resort in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Here is a description: A vacation with sea, sun and fun is yours at the beautiful Ocean Key Resort. Visit nearby historic areas and stroll along the boardwalk. Enjoy a massage at the resort's Massage Therapy Center or try a meal either from room service or in the restaurant. Relax at the indoor pool and Jacuzzi. Enhance your tan in the tanning salon or shape up in the exercise room. Virginia Beach and Ocean Key Resort invite you to sample all the area and resort have to offer. Soft colors and beach accents highlight the Ocean Key Resorts lobby and complement the relaxed family oriented atmosphere.
Located at the serene south end of Virginia Beach, Va., the Ocean Key Resort is one mile from Virginia Beach Amusement Park and Virginia Beach Pavilion Convention Center. The area is also brimming with an exciting nightlife of nightclubs, restaurants, comedy shows and live entertainment. The Norfolk International Airport is within miles of the property.
Expedia is listing this property for 1 week in August at $1,227 for a 1 bedroom unit. The same room in the same week goes for $685! Amazing!
5. Wyndham Sea Gardens in Pompano Beach, Florida (near Fort Lauderdale). Here is a description: This family resort features four pools and various watersports and kids' activities, as well as tennis courts.
Enjoy views of the sculpted tropical waterfall gardens or the yachts and fishing vessels that pass by while navigating the Intercoastal Waterway.
Expedia is listing this property for 1 week in August for $1,024. Again, you can get the same room for $699 with this membership!
6. Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort in Carlsbad, CA (home of Legoland!) Here is the description: Carlsbad Inn puts an entire realm of oceanfront activities at your doorstep. Local marinas can outfit you with everything you need for a day of boating or fishing. Back on land, you can play golf and tennis within six miles, work out in the resort's gym,or take a dip in the outdoor pool. For sight-seeing, Knott's Berry Farm, Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Seaworld and Legoland are within an easy drive. Tours to Ensenada,Mexico, and J. Paul Getty Museum/Hollywood are provided from this resort location.
Expedia lists a one bedroom unit for 1 week in August for $2,773! You pay only $699 for the same unit and week! Holy cow, that's $2,000 in savings! Note: this location is right on the beach! Can't beat that!
All 5,000 properties offered with this travel membership are no higher than $799 PER WEEK, not per night, in any given season! Some are as low as $298 per week! Most are studios, 1 and 2 bedroom units at hotels, resorts and timeshares! Families and large groups will appreciate any room that comes with a kitchen!
Now I don't know about you, but I would love to take my family on a summer beach vacation at any one of these places! Go check out the pictures at the resorts' websites! Because I own this membership, I will be doing just that this summer and the next summer and the next summer!
So, the next time you feel nostalgic for a real summer beach vacation, do yourself a favor and look into a travel membership and save!
Perhaps I'll see you at the beach!

Luxury Beach Vacations. The very words seem to mystify most people. But add "luxury" to the same sentence, and most people will think of expensive resorts situated on faraway, exotic beaches with extra services and amenities. All-inclusive resorts, perhaps, that cater to honeymooning couples or families that have activities scheduled out for them! Luxury does imply convenience and extra activites that a regular beach vacation may not include. Some examples are golfing, massages, parasailing, and even gambling! And then there is the beach itself. Some beaches are soft, white and powdery. Some are soft and pink. There are even black beaches. However, most are brown grains of sand for those of us who do not live in a tropical paradise! Now complement all of that with the color of the ocean (blue, green, turquoise or all of them!) and the very words "luxury beach vacation" starts its magic on you!
Enter Global Resorts Network. This company has been around for 22 years and is the best kep secret to smart travel! Mind you, Global Resorts Network has over 5,000 properties around the world!

RHC/Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace has a full compliment of sun and surf action, squash, racquetball, and tennis courts.

Florida reconsiders an ad tax.
The "Sunshine State" abolished the sales tax exemption on advertising 20 years ago this week. It proved disastrous costing broadcasters $12 million as marketing dollars dried up. The tax was rescinded after six months. Now Florida's Taxation and Budget Reform Commission is proposing to give it another try to generate badly-needed school funding. It would add a 6% tax to radio buys. The move would need approval by the legislature and voters. If they all give the nod, the ad tax would begin by 2012.
II Members: Like dozens of members on this E-mail list that were in business during the Florida Ad Tax 20 years ago, I was managing at a television station and still feel the pain. To say that the tax was devastating to state and local economic growth is mild. Advertising in radio dropped significantly (they were hardest hit) while TV and newspapers struggled despite of the state’s population size and high spending and qualitative habits.
Those national advertisers who did not boycott the state paid their ad statements minus the tax amount owed in protest. Most local and regional advertisers either did not advertise or paid the tax. Broadcasters had to either collect the tax or forced to pay the taxes themselves. The media and service businesses became tax collectors for the state. For retail businesses to pay this new tax or absorb the amount of the tax on already thin margins forced many out of business. The impact on business in the state was devastating. Eventually pressure from the Florida Association of Broadcasters (FAB), the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA ) and others were successful repealing the ad tax.

Paris Hilton arrived in Miami, Florida to promote her new scent, Can Can, and decided to check out the Mansion Party in South Beach. The jetsetting heiress has been all about the globe recently, exciting fans everywhere.
Hilt on recently refuted claims that she was in India on an elephant-saving mission, which British tabloid, The Daily Star, erroneously reported. In this latest fabrication, Paris is quoted to have said she was disturbed by a large group of elephants becoming electrocuted after drinking a local alcoholic beverage, rice-beer.
Hilto n told Ellen Degeneres on her show, "I read that and I was like, `How would an elephant get alcohol in the first place? Why would I talk about that? Why would I care if an elephant got drunk? Can an elephant get drunk?' I've never talked about that in my life. I didn't even know an elephant could get drunk."
Paris Hilton is no stranger to tabloid journalism taking a jab at her. "They always put words in my mouth all over the press all the time. I just laugh at them now. It's literally comedy every morning; we wake up reading these stories... My friends will send them on a BlackBerry to me and we'll just laugh."

...and I am probably going to attempt riding my bike about twice as far as yesterday though since getting a new one may take two rides so that each bike recieves equal attention.
NO one wants a neglected bike as they tend to fall apart when left on their own and un-checked.......much like our own human bodies which will fail when left unattended so please take care of yourself and remember that it is much nicer to be nice than to not be and I may be accepting sponsers in the not so distant future for entering various Bike Races for which at this time I am in extensive daily training with the goal to enter my first race before my 51st Birthday(which is less than 3 months away). Consider that for the last 35 or so years I had not been very attentive to caring for this body feeding it severtal packets of tar sticks each day, then on a whim while visiting Panama this past Winter I bought and rode my first bike and at the same time quit smoking with only the pedals as my new addiction. Three months later my body has taken on a new life adjusting to the lack of an unhealthy influence by replacing it with an activity that I had not engaged in since I was 15 years old throwing newspapers in Florida, trading the Bike for a motorcycle which later transformed into an automobile with a higher interest in girls and finishing high school then my health.
Maybe one day in the future I may share with you all some of the demons which haunted my past for many years and how facing each one eventually led me to this day of reckoning and fullfilling what many call "inner peace' for without this the quitting smoking would still be only a pipe dream. The fact is that once confronting then taking control of these past issues, quitting smoking was not so difficult as the general consensus would lead many to believe. I do not want to be the one to preach and state all of the negative aspects of smoking though as tobbaco was my dearest friend for many years and who klnows that without that plant I may have taken my rage and turned it into something destructive instead of constructive. Something a wise young women said to me many years ago that "anger turned inside is depression and anger turned outside is desturction" so I choose not to have anger nor to hold onto is as if it is a safety harness, though may at times appear to be quick with my toungue to challange any who oppress others including myself.
Well it looks like there is more information in today's blog then I had released in many years over this web.
Should any of you have an addiction problem of which you feel you need some help to overcome then please know that just by recognizing a problem you have already taken the first steps towards finding a solution and it is amazing what we may do once we make the decisions.
Thank you all again for tuning into this page and please remember that you don't have to tie shoelaces when you wear slip-on's!!!!
